Bairnsdale Store Cattle Report

Total Yarding: 2,530

Commentary

There were approximately 2,530 head penned representing a decrease of 210 head from the sale of a fortnight ago. Quality was similar with most weights and grades represented while the heifer offering was more limited. The crowd was fairly large again with most local agencies represented as most competition came from within Gippsland. There was a a limited selection of heavy feeder steers which sold to the strongest competition with prices back up to $100/head. In the lighter weight pens soft grazier demand pulled prices back from 50c to 100c/kg or in the order of $200-$350/head.

The top of the weaner steers made $2,030/head for 15 Herefords weighed at 396kg or 513c/kg. Angus steers averaging 363kg made $1,877/head or 518c/kg. Angus steers averaging 256kg made $1,466/head or 574c/kg. The top of the yearling steers made $2,570/head for 7 black baldies weighed at 514kg or 500c/kg. Hereford steers averaging 448kg made $2,246/head or 502c/kg. Angus feeder steers 520kg+ averaged $2,912/head at 565kg or 515c/kg.

The top of the weaner heifers made $1,600/head for 17 Angus weighed at 345kg or 464c/kg. Hereford heifers averaging 297kg made $1,345/head or 452c/kg. Angus heifers averaging 304kg made $1,429/head or 470c/kg. The top of the limited selection of yearling heifers made $2000/head for 2 Herefords weighed at 447kg or 447c/kg.
