Commentary

There was a larger yarding of 1,504 store cattle at Powranna on Thursday and for this time of year the quality was relatively good. The market was fully firm to slightly dearer compared to a month ago with all competition coming from Tasmanian buyers.
Medium weight steer weaners (280-330 kg) made $1,540 to $1,880 (av. 600c), light (200-280 kg) $1,320 to $1,760 (635c) and very small $1,020 to $1,500 (700c).
Heavy yearling steers made $2,020 to $2,350 (500c), medium $1,760 to $2,000 (530c) and small $1,520 to $1,900 (600c).
A couple of grown steers made $2,700/head.

Medium weaner heifers made $1,340 to $1,600, light $1,020 to $1,500 (540c) and very small $800 to $1,100 (570c). Heavy yearling heifers made $1,860 to $2,260 (470c), medium $1,720 to $1,940 (490c) and light $1,400 to $1,600 (515c).

The few cows and calves made $2,500 to $2,900 and most empty cows were bought by processors for $2,000 to $3,150.
