Commentary
1978 cattle were scanned for the fortnightly store cattle sale in Tamworth this week 430 less then the previous sale. It was a mixed quality yarding of predominately weaner and yearling type cattle with limited numbers of cows and calves on offer. All usual buyers were present for steady competition in an overall softer market.
Angus steers under 200kg made from $610 to $1210/head. 200 to 280kg Angus steers again were the majority and made from $1130 to $1750 to average 569c/kg. Crossbred steers the same weight made from $930 to $1600/head to average 517c/kg. Weaner steers 280kg to 330kg made to $1570/head and the best pen of yearling steers made to $1960/head.
Angus heifers under 200kg made from $450 to $690/head while their crossbred counterparts were better quality and made from $500 to $850/head. Angus heifers 200kg to 280kg made from $790 to $1350/head to average 410c/kg. Crossbred heifers the same weight made from $830 to $1100/head to average 387c/kg. Weaner heifers 280kg to 330kg made to $1450/head and the best pen of yearling heifers topped at $1710/head.
Cows and calves lacked quality and topped at $2200/head and the best of the PTIC cows made to $1900/head.
