Commentary

A reduced yarding 1896 cattle were scanned in Tamworth this week for the fortnightly store cattle sale. It was a fair quality yarding with most cattle presenting in store condition and showing the effects of winter. A solid field of buyers were in attendance with local competition making up the majority.

Angus steers under 200kg were dearer to make between $930 and $1020/head cross bred steers made from $680 to $1030/head. Angus steers 200kg to 280kg made up the majority of the steers, they were also stronger to make from $1040 to $1640/head and average 583c/kg. Crossbred steers the same weight made from $790 to $1560/head to average 555c/kg. The best of the yearling steers made to $2000 or 540c/kg.

Heifers were 25c dearer across the board and more in places. Heifers under 200kg made from $660 to $940/head. Angus heifers 200kg to 280kg made from $770 to $1370/head to average 460c/kg. Crossbred heifers the same weight made from $925 to $1330/head and averaged 454c/kg. The best pen of yearling heifers made to $1860/head.

There was a very good line up of cows and calves on offer. Angus cows and calves made from $1975 to $3200/head. Hereford cows and calves made from $2000 to $3160/head and the best pen of PTIC cows made to $2080/head.
