Katanning Sheep Sale Report

Commentary

Numbers were up for a total yarding of 10,350 sheep and lambs at Katanning. A good run of heavy lambs eased with demand selling to a top of $293 while a large margin of the lesser weights lacked quality easing up to $30/head. Restockers were keen to secure good frame Merino ewe lambs paying up to $233/head. Mutton numbers were equal to last week with prices easing with demand, heavy weight ewes topped at $252/head.

Lambs weighing under 16kg cwt sold from $30 to $158 while heavier lambs sold to $184/head. Trade weight lambs sold from $165 to $241 while heavyweights under 24kg cwt made from $210 to $267 and extra heavyweights topped at $293 /head. Ram lambs sold mainly to processors for $68 to $220 weight dependent.

Merino store wether hoggets sold for $120 to $148 while medium weights made $165 to $170 and heavy weights returned $222/head. Merino ewe hoggets made $189 for medium weights.

Store ewe mutton eased selling from $50 to $180 with a fleece, the prime medium weight ewes returned $170 to $206 while heavy weight ewes over 30kg cwt sold from $210 to $252/head. Mature store wethers returned $150 to $160 while medium weights sold from $170 to $200 and heavy weights sold to $229 /head.

Mature rams sold from $70 to $208 to processors and a pen of xbred rams sold to a restocker for $242/head.
