Katanning Sheep Sale Report

Commentary
Numbers were up for a total yarding of 10,720 sheep and lambs at Katanning. A mixed quality yarding with heavy prime lines in demand from processors and more interest from restockers. Heavy mutton gained while the lighter weights and stores lines were mainly firm to easier. Heavy lambs were in demand from processors selling to $170 while hoggets eased with demand with one processor absent. Plain or poorly presented pens sold to minimal values.
Lambs weighing under 16kg cwt sold from $5 to $85 while heavier lambs made $70 to $110/head. Trade weight lambs returned $95 to $144 and heavy weight lambs sold to $170/head. Ram lambs sold from $50 to $90/head.
Light weight Merino wether hoggets ranged from $10 to $70, medium weights sold from $67 to $70 and heavy weights sold from $92 to $121, Merino ewe hoggets returned from $19 to $89 for light weights while medium weight returned $50 to $90 and heavyweights sold from $82 to $135/head.
Store mutton returned $5 to $85 with a fleece while prime medium weight ewes made from $80 to $115 and heavy weight ewes over 30kg cwt sold from $110 to $130/head. Heavy weight mature wethers made from $110 to $130 while mature rams returned from $15 to $87 to processors.
