Commentary

Numbers lifted by 7681 sheep and lambs with both quality and demand improving. The usual supplementary fed lambs were on offer with additional weight and numbers across the heavy and extra heavy lamb categories. A full of both domestic and export processors were present with few restocker’s operating. Strong competition across the trade and heavy lamb category driven by supermarkets striving to secure orders. The market was dearer with lifts of $20 in places.

Quality lambs were offered across all weights in the trade lamb run with gains between $12 and $18/head. Light and medium trade lamb’s sold from $126 to $171/head. Heavy trade from 23 to 26kg made from $168 to $207/head averaging 758c/kg cwt, top pens making over 800c/kg. A good offering of heavy lambs made from $172 to $222/head and extra heavy export types sold up to $233/head. Processor’s dominated the light lamb offering with strong demand lifting prices by up to $20 lambs selling from $72 to $138/head. Merino lambs were better supplied with the heaviest pen selling to $183/head.

All weights and grades were offered across the mutton run, processor’s operating in a firm market. Heavy crossbred ewes sold from $77 to $108/head with heavy Merino ewes selling to $93/head. Trade sheep made from $55 to $76/head.
