Commentary

There were approximately 570 export and 250 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 1015 head week-on-week with price reductions and a short trading week impacting supply. All of the usual buyers were present and operating in a cheaper market. Quality declined with few prime cattle penned. Young cattle eased from 10c to 30c/kg in line with quality. Grown steers lost 20c while bullocks eased 5c/kg. Manufacturing steers slipped 30c/kg. Cows gave back 20c to 30c/kg. Heavy bulls eased 5c/kg.

Vealers sold from 256c to 376c/kg. Yearling trade steers made between 270c and 340c/kg. Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 240c and 280c/kg. Grown steers made from 270c to 320c/kg. Bullocks sold from 280c to 331c/kg.

Heavy Friesian manufacturing steers made between 198c and 202c with the crossbred portion between 230c and 300c/kg. Most light and medium weight cows sold between 80c and 228c/kg. Heavy weight cows made mostly from 150c to 240c/kg. Heavy bulls sold from 230c to 268c/kg.
