Commentary

Numbers increased substantially as agents offered 5,000 lambs and 650 sheep. The usual trade and processor buyers provided steady competition with specialty butchers, feeders and restockers also well represented. Quality was generally good with trade and heavier weight lambs all selling to a dearer trend. One agent yarded more Merino lambs this week with most returning 1100c/cwt and better. Mutton sold firm to marginally dearer on last week. Crossbred light new seasons lambs sold from $190 to $220 as older stores ranged from $180 to $220/head. Older trade weights sold from $245 to $260, heavy weights ranged from $290 to $300 with extreme heavyweights selling from $330 to a sale top of $438/head. Light new seasons Merino lambs sold from $150 to $214 as older stores ranged from $170 to $200/head. Trade weights sold from $245 to $270, heavy weights ranged from $270 to $280 with extreme heavyweights selling from $310 to $360/head. Light mutton sold from $140 to $160, trade weights ranged from $200 to $210 with heavy weights selling from $255 to $265/head.
