Commentary
Rain fell throughout the sale and flooding rain across a large portion of the supply area and the cancellation of a number of sales in Queensland the supply of stock at Dalby reduced by 984 head to 2,673 of predominantly local cattle. The trend of larger numbers of cows being offloaded in the south continued on at Dalby with over 700 cows and heifers included in the lineup. All the regular export buyers were in attendance and operating in a much dearer market along with a good panel of trade and feeder buyers and restockers.
Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged over 35c/kg better. Yearling steers to feed improved by 13c to 17c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers gained 30c to 35c/kg and more in places. Yearling heifers to feed sold to a market 10c to 12c dearer and over 20c/kg on local trade lines. Heavy grown steers and bullocks were once again noticeably dearer. All classes of cows sold to a dearer trend of 23c to 32c/kg.
Yearling steers under 200kg to restockers made to 468c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg also returning to the paddock averaged 445c and made to 456c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 388c to 436c with isolated sales to 454c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 410c to average 384c/kg. Very light weight yearling heifers made to 394c while the under 280kg lines made to 364c to average 346c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 337c to 340c with sales to 365c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 344c and local trade lines made to 360c/kg.
Heavy grown steers supplementary fed made to 386c to average 376c/kg. Bullocks sold to a high of 404c to average 388c/kg. Grown heifers made to 367c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 269c and made to 275c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 305c and the best of the cows made to 335c to average 328c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to an isolated 342c/kg.
