Commentary

Numbers increased by 250 and the quality was mostly good. There were some excellent runs of grain assisted yearlings to process, along with some good runs of weaners returning to the paddock. Yearlings suitable for the feedlot buyers attracted strong competition, and there was keen interest for the heavier heifers ready to join. Heavy grown heifers were well supplied, and there were 160 cows to process and 42 cows and calves. A full field of buyers, along with newly registered restocker buyers resulted in a strong market.

Yearlings to process were firm, selling from 400c to 556c/kg. Feeder steers were up to 12c dearer, making from 400c to 510c, and heifers to feed continue to rise, topping at 455c, to average 429c/kg. B muscled 200-280kg weaner steers reached 590c and the better C muscled types were 13c dearer, to average 546c/kg. The heifer portion was considerably dearer, especially those over 280kg, averaging 442c/kg.

The limited supply and plainer quality heavy steers were cheaper, and the heavy grown heifers were mostly price unchanged, topping at 466c/kg. Lighter and leaner cows lost a few cents and the heavy prime cows gained 7c, reaching 415c, to average 396c/kg. Heavy bulls to process were also dearer, selling from 344c to 410c/kg.
