Commentary
There were approximately 1,730 export and 350 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 120 head week-on-week. Most of the usual buying group was present and operating in a mixed market. Quality was limited in the grown cattle and improved in the trade run while cows represented half of the sale. Trade cattle eased 10c/kg and more on some isolated sales. Grown cattle held firm. Cows sold from firm to 10c/kg cheaper. Heavy bulls lifted 10c/kg.
A larger selection of vealers sold from 410c to 520c/kg. Yearling trade steers made between 450c and 500c/kg. Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 430c and 470c/kg. Grown steers made from 470c to 502c/kg. Bullocks sold from 495c to 510c/kg. Heavy grown heifers made between 447c and 485c/kg.
Heavy Friesian manufacturing steers sold between 422c and 462c with the crossbred portion between 434c and 504c/kg. Most light and medium weight cows made from 342c to 400c/kg. Heavy weight cows sold mostly from 368c to 444c/kg. Heavy bulls made between 444c and 510c/kg.
