Commentary

It was a fair to good quality offering, particularly with the better-finished lambs being grain-fed. The usual buyers showed up for the sale, all operating in a robust market. A notable percentage of the lambs were Dorpers, complemented by a significant representation of Merino lambs. Agents were active, albeit with a limited offering of crossbred lambs.

Trade lambs weighing between 20 -24 kg fetched prices ranging from $210 -$282, averaging 1157c/kg cwt. The slightly heavier category of 24-26 kg saw lambs selling from $296 -$324 each. Dorpers intended for restocking and feeding were particularly sought after, with prices spanning from $160-$254/head.

Heavy export lambs attracted keen interest, especially those in the 26-30 kg range, which sold for $315-$358/head. For lambs exceeding 30kg, prices ranged from $348 to $450 each, reflecting strong demand in the export market.

On the mutton front, the offering was quite mixed with various weights and grades available. Trade sheep were sold between $163 and $212, averaging around 800c/kg cwt. The heavier grades commanded prices from $229-$310/head to average 812-858c/kg cwt
