Commentary

Numbers remained similar with 690 cattle penned, made up of 550 young cattle, 116 cows, 13 Bulls and a few pens of open auction young calves. Quality mostly consisted of plainer secondary types. Most of the usual buyers were present but not all operated fully in a firm dearer market in places across the yarding. Young cattle gained 10 to 25c dearer and more in places, cows gained 10c to 20c better and bulls were to 10c/kg dearer in places.

Yearling steers sold to the trade 286c to 338c for the better quality and the secondary types made from 160c to 272c, while feeders and restockers paid from 170c to 290c/kg. Yearling heifers sold from 220 to 318c to the trade and feeders and restockers paid 100c to 292c/kg. The very few vealer steers offered sold from 292c to 312c for the better quality, with 2 excellent conditioned steers selling to 395c/kg. The secondary types from 158c to 290c/kg. Manufacturing beef steers sold from 80c to 224c/kg.

Grown steers sold to the trade from 285c to 326c/kg. Grown heifers sold to the trade from 253c to 315c for the better quality and the secondary types made from 163c to 268c/kg. Heavy cows sold from 210c to 268c/kg. Medium weight cows sold from 155c to 200c/kg. Heavy bulls sold from 140c to 230c and the lighter and young bulls from 150c to 240c/kg.
