Commentary

There were 660 exports and 350 trade offered, with 480 cows in the mix. Very few heavy steers about this week, but there were some good lines of finished beef cows and well covered Friesian cows. Cow prices met healthy gains, as the dairy portion lifted by 10c to 20c/kg and the beef cows were 2c to 14c/kg higher.

Only a small offering of young cattle, with quality mixed. The best of the supplementary fed yearlings sold at dearer rates as vealers made from 460c to 510c/kg. The yearling steers reached 515c/kg , while the supplementary fed heifers made to a top of 528c/kg. The bulk of the heifers made from 438c to 510c/kg.

The 500 to 600kg steers ranged from 464c to 490c/kg, Fresians steers made to 372c/kg. The heavy dairy cows ranged from 314c to 378c/kg, while the beef portion made from 355c to 398c/kg.
