Commentary

Numbers were similar and once again cows made up almost half the yarding. Quality was fair to very good with some stock grain fed. The usual exporters made it to the sale, and most were keen to make purchases. Domestic processors were at the market, and all were keen to purchase well finished grain fed yearlings. Heavy steers and bullocks were in short supply.

It was a very good offering of trade cattle. However, vealers numbers declined and domestic buyers were cautious when making purchases. Prices ranged from 440-525c/kg. Trade steers sold mostly firm with the better finished fetching 486-540c/kg. Trade heifers 400-500kg sold to erratic competition to equal last weeks prices. The bulk making from 430-508c/kg.

On the export side heavy steers and bullocks suitable for processors were very good but in limited numbers. The bulk making from 420c-518c/kg. In the cow sale, quality was mixed and bidding was more intense for the better finished types. The bulk of the heavy cows lifted 6-9c, with the well finished types ranging from 392c to 432c/kg. Leaner cows under 520kg and with some cover lifted in value to average 371c/kg. Heavy bulls with shape sold from 405-450c/kg.
