Commentary

Numbers lifted to 2,500 head of cattle at Blackall this week that included 1,100 prime cattle. Overall quality improved on previous weeks and all the usual buyers were present and active in a firm prime market.

Local backgrounders were active on a limited number of steers 200 to 280kg topping at 605.2c to average 591c, a very good quality consignment of steers 280 to 330kg saw a top price of 598.2c with most round 561c and feeder steers over 400kg sold to 520.2c to average 492c/kg.

Quality was mixed on the heifer run with orders from NSW active on the top quality pens selling to 472.2c while a large portion of the yarding were plainer types selling to 386.2c to average 362c/kg.

Grown prime steers sold to 438.2c, heavy prime heifers over 540kg sold to 412.2c to average 410c, while those to feed made to 420.2c/kg. Medium cows sold to 344.2c to average 328c, heavy 3 score cows sold to 375c averaging 368c and heavy 4 score cows topped at 385.2c to average 375c/kg. Heavy bulls were a stand out, lifting 40c to a top of 470.2c to average 445c/kg.
