Commentary
Recent rain across the supply area saw numbers reduce to 1,200 head at Blackall this week, including 750 prime cattle that met with increased competition from all the usual buyers including an additional prime heifer order. Yearling steers to feed lifted in price and good quality pens of light weight backgrounders saw increased competition from local restockers.
Light weight steers saw a top price of 532.2c and steers 280 to 330kg to a top of 518.2c to average 481c/kg. Heavy feeder steers lifted by 20c, selling to 463.2c to average 452c/kg.
A large offering of yearling bulls under 400kg sold to 440.2c to average 378c/kg.
Too few yearling heifers were yarded to reliably quote, however heifers 200 to 280kg saw a top of 415.2c/kg.
Heavy grown steers to the processor lifted 20c selling to 422.2c to average 418c, heavy heifers made to 398.2c to average 391c and medium weight cows under 520kg sold to 348.2c to average 330c/kg. Heavy 3 score cows sold to 356.2c to average 351c, up 20c and heavy 4 score cows made to 366.2c, lifting 12c to average 363c/kg. Heavy bulls sold to 392.2c/kg.
