Commentary

There were approximately 2,500 head penned representing an increase of 500 head week-on-week. Quality was very good in the steer portion while the heifer offering was more mixed. The crowd of onlookers was large as most local agencies were represented and providing the majority of the competition. There were a few feedlot orders present although limited in their purchases. Most of the steers sold 30c/kg dearer or up to $150/head. Heifers sold up to 30c/kg dearer with some grades just holding firm where quality lacked.

The top of the weaner steers made $2,260/head for 24 Angus weighed at 405kg or 558c/kg. Steers in this category averaged $2,016/head at 362kg or 556c/kg. Angus steers averaging 252kg made $1,530/head or 608c/kg. The top of the yearling steers made $3,000/head for 8 Angus weighed at 598kg or 502c/kg. Steers in this category averaged $2,599/head at 495kg or 525c/kg. A few pens of grown steers weighing between 605kg and 729kg sold from $2,950 to $3,400/head or 466c to 502c/kg.

The top of the weaner heifers made $1,750/head for 15 Angus weighed at 368kg or 475c/kg. Heifers in this category averaged $1,650/head at 349kg or 473c/kg. Angus heifers averaging 253kg made $1,211/head or 479c/kg. The top of the yearling heifers made $2,270/head for 4 Euro crosses weighed at 475kg or 478c/kg. Angus heifers averaging 411kg made $1,977/head or 481c/kg.
