Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Cattle markets were generally stronger, with rain improving buyer confidence and supporting restocker and feeder demand, while limited heavy cattle supply and firmer cow prices also underpinned the market.

The trends appear to be:

  • Rain improved buyer confidence and strengthened restocker and feeder demand in NSW.
  • Feeder yearlings were particularly strong at Forbes.
  • Smaller yardings supported competition across most NSW categories.
  • WA cattle were mostly firm to slightly dearer, although young bulls weakened sharply as live export demand softened.
  • Victorian results were mixed, with trade cattle and bullocks firm while some secondary categories eased.

New South Wales

  • Forbes yarded 1,231 cattle, with mixed quality and solid buyer competition driving a firm to dearer market, particularly for feeder yearlings.
  • Tamworth yarded 715 cattle, with renewed buyer optimism after rain lifting restocker steers and feeder cattle, while cows eased.
  • Wagga yarded 3,340 cattle, with strong restocker and feedlot demand lifting most categories, while scarce heavy steers and cows also strengthened.

Summary: NSW markets strengthened on improved confidence following rain, with strong restocker and feeder demand lifting most cattle categories.

Victoria

  • Mortlake yarded 1,129 cattle, with trade cattle and bullocks firm to slightly dearer, while grown heifers, manufacturing cattle and bulls eased.
An additional agency report was available from Mortlake Store.

Summary: Victorian markets were mixed but generally firm, with stronger demand for trade cattle and bullocks offsetting weaker secondary categories.

Western Australia

Muchea yarded 757 cattle, with most steers, heifers and cows firm to slightly dearer, while young bulls fell sharply as live export demand weakened.

Summary: WA markets were mostly firm to stronger, although weaker live export demand pressured young bulls.

National Summary

Australian cattle markets were generally stronger, with rain improving buyer confidence and strong restocker and feeder demand supporting prices despite smaller yardings.
