Commentary
Strong and consistent prices were achieved for a significant portion of last year’s spring drop calves. The market fed off the promise of another big grass season and recent trading of feeder cattle at high money values. The sale was on par to the recent store sale at CTLX. The standout feature of the sale was it price consistency for well-bred Angus steers and heifers over all categories. A large field of buyers made it to the sale with restockers volume buyers over all classes. Feedlots were also a player at the sale for cattle carrying weight and plenty of frame. Cattle retuning to the paddock were destined for Oberon, Gilgandra, Come By Chance, Victoria, and St George Queensland just to name a few.
Well bred steers 200 to 280kg sold to very strong demand with the better drafts selling from 580c to 721c to average $1634/head. Steers 330-400kg sold from 540c to 640c/kg with the bulk of the Angus steers averaging 606c or $2151/head. Heavy steers over 400kg averaged $2400/head.
In the heifer sale quality was more mixed with some pens looking very wintery. Heifers 200 to 280 kg fetched from 437c to 687c/kg. Heifers 330-400kg were keenly sought by restockers the bulk making from 488c to 551c to average $1822/head.
