Commentary
Lamb numbers increased and the quality improved. There was a better run of light lambs with more have better shape and yield. The trade run and most of the heavy lambs were in good order and there was only a limited supply of extra heavy lambs. There were good numbers of both Dorpers and crossbreds but Merino were limited and there was a short supply of heavy weights. The market sold to stronger trends.
The 2 score processing lambs were $16 to $18/head stronger due to quality and sold from $56 to $116/head. The trade lambs were $7 to $13 dearer selling from $140 to $175/head to average 690c/kg for the better end. Secondary lambs ranged from 600c to 640c/kg. Lambs 24 to 26kg cwt sold between $164 and $191/head or 700c/kg and heavy weights averaged $5 dearer but there were a few sales of big runs that were upto $15 better and were selling from $180 to $226/head averaging 727c/kg. The extra heavy lambs sold from $220 to $256 and Dorpers reached $216/head. Most averaged 725c/kg. The best of the hoggets reached $148/head.
Mutton numbers lifted and the quality was again mixed but prices were $7 to $10 better. Medium weight ewes sold from $42 to $69/head. Heavy crossbred ewes reached $105 and heavy Merinos ranged from $68 to $110/head. Most of the better covered lines sold between 260c and 290c/kg cwt.
