Commentary
There were approximately 1,000 head penned representing an increase of 130 head year-on-year. Quality was good again with most lines in forward condition and the regular suppliers featuring throughout. Agency representatives from across Victoria were in attendance. Strong demand came from central Victoria and Gippsland. There were no volume feedlot purchases. Prices were in the order of 30c to 40c/kg dearer year-on-year or up to $300/head and generally in line with recent weaner sale results in Victoria.
The top of the weaner steers made $1,620/head for 20 Herefords weighed at 390kg or 415c/kg. The top of the yearling steers made $2,250/head for 11 Herefords weighed at 573kg or 393c/kg. The top of the weaner heifers made $1,270/head for 20 Herefords estimated to weigh 350kg or 362c/kg. The top of the yearling heifers made $1,420/head for 20 Herefords weighed at 418kg or 340c/kg.
