Commentary

There were approximately 2,230 head penned representing a decrease of 510 head week-on-week. Quality was very mixed again with many smaller lots and secondary cattle mixed throughout the offering. The crowd was large and most local agencies were represented as the majority of the competition came from orders within the supply area. There were several feeder orders operating on suitable lots however they were unwilling to compete resulting in a price reduction of $140/head for heavy feeder steers. Most weaner and yearling steers sold up to $100/head cheaper with quality an issue in places. Heifers sold just slightly dearer on most sales.

The top of the weaner steers made $2,150/head for 16 Angus weighed at 356kg or 604c/kg. Steers in this category averaged $2,016/head at 344kg or 585c/kg. Angus steers averaging 309kg made $1,929/head or 624c/kg. The top of the yearling steers made $2,840/head for 18 Angus weighed at 496kg or 573c/kg. Steers in this category averaged $2,553/head at 457kg or 558c/kg. Angus feeder steers 520kg+ averaged $3,072/head at 584kg or 526c/kg.

The top of the weaner heifers made $2,130/head for 13 Angus weighed at 394kg or 541c/kg. Heifers in this category averaged $1,975/head at 368kg or 537c/kg. Angus heifers averaging 306kg made $1,649/head or 538c/kg. The top of the yearling heifers made $2,770/head for 14 Angus weighed at 529kg or 524c/kg. Heifers in this category averaged $2,463/head at 475kg or 519c/kg.
