Commentary
There were approximately 2,770 head penned representing an increase of 440 head week-on-week. Quality was Wintry again with a good selection of heavy Angus yearling steers and a more mixed offering of light weight weaners and yearlings. There was a fair sized crowd and most local agencies were represented however they were a little more selective with their competition. There was a large field of feedlot buyers operating with suitable cattle remaining fully firm. In the light weight pens competition was more intermittent in line with quality and averages reflected this.
The top of the weaner steers made $2,250/head for 20 Angus weighed at 403kg or 558c/kg. Steers in this category averaged $2,130/head at 374kg or 569c/kg. The top of the yearling steers made $3,200/head for 18 Angus weighed at 600kg or 533c/kg. Steers in this category averaged $2,773/head at 503kg or 551c/kg. The top of the grown steers made $3,320/head for 11 Angus weighed at 654kg or 508c/kg.
The top of the weaner heifers made $2,060/head for 22 Angus weighed at 388kg or 531c/kg. Heifers in this category averaged $1,889/head at 361kg or 524c/kg. The top pen of yearling heifers made $2,400/head for 14 Angus weighed at 445kg or 539c/kg. Heifers in this category averaged $2,269/head at 457kg or 497c/kg.
