Commentary

There were approximately 2,600 head penned representing a decrease of 470 head week-on-week. Quality improved in the yearling steers while the more limited heifer offering was not of the same standard. The crowd was large with most local agencies represented and there was some more feedlot enquiry from a couple of orders. Prices were close to firm throughout with some minor fluctuations in line with quality.

The top of the weaner steers made $2,080/head for 23 Angus weighed at 396kg or 525c/kg. Steers in this category averaged $1,810/head at 363kg or 499c/kg. Angus steers averaging 308kg made $1,642/head or 532c/kg. The top of the yearling steers made $2,850/head for 16 Angus weighed at 582kg or 490c/kg. Steers in this category averaged $2,407/head at 500kg or 482c/kg. There was a large offering of over 150 grown steers weighing between 601 and 754kg which made from 432c to 478c/kg.

The top of the weaner heifers made $1,750/head for 13 Angus weighed at 398kg or 440c/kg. Heifers in this category averaged $1,544/head at 367kg or 421c/kg. The top of the yearling heifers made $2,250/head for 10 black baldies weighed at 486kg or 463c/kg. Angus heifers averaging 454kg made $2,067/head or 455c/kg.
