Commentary
With substantial rainfall in the supply area numbers were well below the anticipated numbers and only 474 very mixed quality cattle penned. There were some outstanding pens of weaners and just 12 month old yearlings but also some plain and light cattle. The market did sell to stronger trends with the Angus and Angus x cattle lifting 30c to 40c/kg and other breeds between 20c and 35c/kg and was based on quality and condition of the cattle.
Light steers under 200kg sold from $910 to $1070/head and the Angus steers averaged 620c/kg. Medium weights up to 280kg sold from $1245 to $1820/head averaging from 600c to 625c/kg for Angus calves and most other cattle 540c to 580c/kg. Heavy steers reached $2300/head for 422kg.
Light heifers ranged from $620 to $990/head, medium weights sold to $1280/head and the better shaped and conditioned cattle sold from 475c to 520c/kg. A single Black Baldy heifer weighing 430kg topped the sale reaching $2100/head. A special mention for a very good pen of Santa/Hereford heifers that reached $1580/head or 475c/kg.
