Commentary
The monthly store sale offered 1589 head. The majority of the yard were weaners around 8 to 10 months of age, there were a few yearlings and a small run of cow and calf units and there was a very good run of Angus PTIC heifers. The better shaped weaner steers sold to a similar trend, but the plainer shaped and conditioned steers were softer. Heifers were dearer with gains of $150/head on some lines.
Light weaner steers that averaged 200kg sold to $1310/head, medium weights sold to $1680/head and heavy weaners 280kg and heavier sold between $1580 and $2400/head and most ranged from 580c to 645c/kg for the black cattle. Medium weight weaner heifers sold from $1100 to $1455 and heavy weights reached $1780 for 350kg. Most of the heifers sold from 500c to 560c/kg. Heavy yearling steers reached $2700 or 585c and heifers $2150/head averaging 514c/kg.
Plain crossbred cows with a calf at foot reached $1800/unit and the good run of PTIC Angus heifers made $2550/head.
