Commentary

Armidale penned 2478 mixed quality cattle an increase of 501 head. There was a good offering of prime heavy cows and the beginning of drafts of weaner cattle in the mix. The regular buyers attended to varied trends resulting in a generally cheaper market owing to lack of quality through the young cattle. Saying that the plainer drafts of cows saw dearer trends in both processing and background interest.

Weaner steers under 200kgs much dearer 400c to 538c/kg similar heifers dearer 380c to 438c/kg both categories to backgrounders. Weaner steers to 280kgs slipped 22c/kg 400c to 528c/kg. Background yearling steers to 280kgs 9c/kg better 424c to 452c/kg. Medium feeders slipped 23c/kg 370c to 524c/kg backgrounders 400c to 440c/kg. Feeder steers to 480kgs down 10c/kg 400c to 512c/kg.

Weaner heifers to 280kgs gained 13c/kg 390c to 416c/kg. Similar weight yearling heifers to background lost 20c/kg 318c to 406c/kg. Medium feeders were cheaper by 18c/kg 330c to 416c/kg. Feeder heifers to 480kgs gained 5c/kg 434c to 436c/kg.

Heavy grown heifers to process were cheaper 320c to 400c/kg. Prime heavy cows gained 4c/kg 378c to 388c/kg. Three score cows slightly cheaper 340c to 377c/kg. Medium cows to process lifted 21c/kg 301c to 352c/kg. Heavy bulls slightly dearer 370c to 417c/kg.
