Commentary

Supplies were similar to last week with numbers just under 700. Cow and steer volumes were around the same however bull supplies almost halved while heifer numbers doubled. Quality was mixed ranging from very well-presented bodies down to very plain calves proving once again hard to sell with very few restockers in the buying field and the ones that were there showing little interest.

Calves once again lacking weight and condition sold for minimal values however with condition vealer steers ranged from 120c to 274c remaining equal while lighter vealer heifers showing condition made 120c to 236c and demand for heavier heifers lifted 50/60c starting at 180c up to some grain assisted heifers realizing 306c/kg. The breeding component saw a gain of 10/20c on yearling steers selling from 200c to 302c across all weight categories. Yearling heifers under 330kg sold from 100c to 194c and heavier heifers also gained ground lifting around 50c/kg selling from 180c to 306c/kg.

Grown steers were equal ranging from 180c to 222c while grown heifers also firm making 158c to 216c/kg. Light cows returned 50c to 128c, medium cows 138c to 180c and prime heavy cows realized 198c gaining 10c/kg.

Light bulls lacking condition sold very cheaply while when in export condition returned 120c to 228c and mature bulls were still holding up well ranging from 158c to 218c/kg.
