Commentary

Numbers remained fairly similar this sale though lamb numbers increased to 21850. Quality continues to be mixed with some good lines of trade and heavyweight lambs penned along with the plainer secondary types. The usual buyers were present and competing in a dearer market.

Trade weight lambs 20-24kg sold from $132 to $176/head. Heavyweights to 26kg were also dearer to receive from $170 to $215/head. A good offering of extra heavyweights ranged in price from $173 to $251/head. Carcase prices averaged from 676 to 733c/kg. The best heavy hoggets reached $150/head.

Mutton numbers fell and quality remains mixed. Merinos made up the majority of the offering and prices followed the dearer trend. Merino ewes sold from $60 to $116/head. Crossbreeds received from $50 to $122 with Dorpers reaching $108/head. Heavy Merinos wethers sold from $86 to $120/head.
