Commentary

Both lamb and sheep numbers halved with a shorter kill week. Quality ranged from average to good with the usual buying group in attendance and operating keenly on the reduced offering. The lamb market was slightly dearer on the light weight and heavy lambs, improving in places to $10/head. The medium weighted lambs mostly sold around last week’s levels. The medium and heavy trade weight lambs sold from $136 to $160 with the extra heavy weight lambs selling from $200 to $228/head. The few Merino lambs sold from $48 to $143/head to average 500c to 550c/kg cwt. Restocker’s and feeders paid from $46 to $90/head. The smaller sheep offering of 1,495 head covered all weights and grades with some excellent pens of heavy weight sheep yarded. Sheep sold to similar demand to be mostly the same as last week’s levels. Merino wethers sold to $89, Merino ewes reached $95 and crossbred ewes sold to $80/head.

Light lambs sold from $75 to $118/head. Light trade weight lambs sold from $114 to $138/head to average 600c/kg cwt. Medium trade weight lambs sold from $136 to $150/head and averaged 610c/kg cwt. Heavy trade weight lambs sold from $150 to $160/head and averaged 600c/hg cwt. Export weight lambs sold from $165 to $194/head and averaged 630c/kg cwt. Extra heavy weight lambs sold from $200 to $228/head and averaged 635c/kg cwt. Heavy hogetts sold to $105/head.

Light sheep sold from $12 to $33/head. Medium sheep sold from $36 to $50/head and averaged 190c to 295c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $40 to $95/ head, the wethers sold from $66 to $89/ head, ranging from 210c to 250c/ kg cwt. Crossbred ewe sold from $40o $80/head ranging from 195c to 210c/kg cwt. Rams sold from $2 to $8/head.
