Commentary
Gentle rain through the night of 10mm to 40mm in the local drawing area saw agents yard a much-improved supply of 709 good quality cattle, a sharp rise of 423 head. The bulk of the yarding consisted mainly of excellent drafts of well-bred Angus, Limousin and Charolais weaners with around 75 cows offered. With all the regular buyers at the rail along with rain throughout the sale a larger than normal local re-stocker gallery was present sparking spasmodic bidding helping to create a market which saw most grades selling to dearer trends.
Re-stocker steer weaners jumped 45c/kg 270c to 372c/kg, over 330kg calves mostly supplementary fed were 37c/kg better off trading between 314c and 350c/kg. Re-stocker heifer weaners similar dearer trends of 34c/kg making from 180c to 308c/kg, over 330kg local butcher B muscle claves made to 344c/kg.
Yearling steers and heifers were scarce on the ground with medium weight steers to the lot feeders dearer by 32c/kg selling from 290c to 332c/kg. Heavy grown Steers, Heifers and Bullocks to suit export processing orders traded between 210c and 266c/kg.
Light 2 score cows to re-stock and process 8c to 28c/kg better off 138c to 196c/kg, heavier 2 score cows made to 210c/kg. Pregnancy tested Angus cows heading back to the paddock made 224c/kg. Heavy 3 and 4 score prime cows were 22c to 26c/kg dearer selling from 222c to a top of 240c/kg.
