Commentary
.Restockers scrambled to fill orders for the last sale of the year, pushing prices up by 30c to 40c at times for weaner steers and heifers,with weaner steers reaching the 500c/kg mark in a yarding of 1,350 head. Quality of the young cattle improved with runs of well bred and well finished cattle through the sale.
Restocker weaner steers sold from 362c to 500c while restocker weaner heifers ranged from 260c to 388c/kg. Yearling steers to background sold from 350c to 417c and yearling heifers sold from 276c to 340c/kg.
The yarding of export cattle consisted mainly of cows, along with a few pens of grown steers and heifers. Grown steers sold from 315c to 330c to process and feeders reached a top price of 356c/kg. Grown heifers sold from 260c to 292c kg. Quality of the cows improved again this week, however the market lost last weeks gain to be down by 5c to 10c, with 2 score medium weights selling from 240c to 246c and 3 score medium weights averaged 255c, while heavy cows sold from 265c to 289c/kg.
