Commentary
It was a strong market for the 1,430 head yarded, which included a larger offering of cows, and there was a good supply of young cattle. Quality of the young cattle was good which consisted mainly of vealers and weaners with several runs of well finished and well bred cattle through the sale.
Restockers were active from the Table Lands, West of the State and Southern Queensland. Restocker weaner steers were 20c to 30c dearer depending on breed quality and weight, they sold from 250c to 444c, with the medium weight steers averaging 419c/kg. Restocker weaner heifers ranged from 295c to 352c to be 20c/kg dearer.
The yarding of export cattle consisted of a fair penning of grown steers and increased numbers of grown heifers, while cow numbers also increased. Grown steers were 20c dearer with 4 score steers to process range from 340c to 378c/kg. Grown heifers sold from 290c to 343c/kg. The cow market was 20c dearer with 2 score medium weights selling from 238c to 280c, while 3 score medium weights averaged 295c/kg. The 4 score cows ranged from 310c to 338c/kg. Heavy bulls sold to a top of 310c/kg.
