Report Date: 3rd May 2024

Total Yarding: 2,000

Commentary

There were approximately 2,000 head penned representing a decrease of 1700 head from the sale of a fortnight ago. Quality declined from the previous feature sale with many smaller lots on offer and dairy cattle and their crosses throughout. The buyers gallery was well attended with orders operating from across the state along with the regular locals. There was strong feedlot demand from processors for suitable lines. Prices for the steer portion of the sale were firm in most places while the heifer run saw weaker competition with prices up to $200/head cheaper.

The top of the weaner steers made $1,360/head for 21 Angus weighed at 388kg or 351c/kg. Angus steers 330 to 400kg averaged $1,191/head and 326c/kg. The top of the yearling steers made $1,820/head for 14 Angus weighed at 553kg or 329c/kg. A few pens of older bullocks reached a top of $2,070/head for 3 Baldies weighed at 697kg or 297c/kg.

The top of the weaner heifers made $900/head for 15 Angus weighed at 362kg or 249c/kg. The top of the yearling heifers made $1,570/head for 7 Angus in prime condition and weighed at 587kg or 267c/kg. Cows with calves at foot sold from $740 to $1,900/outfit.
