Commentary
There were approximately 150 export and 20 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 240 head week-on-week. The usual buying group was present and operating in a dearer market as widespread rain in Queensland impacts eastern supply chains. Quality declined with fewer prime cattle and a larger proportion of cows. A sprinkling of trade cattle lifted 10c/kg. Grown steers and bullocks lifted 15c to 20c/kg. Cows improved 30c to 40c/kg. Heavy bulls lifted 14c/kg.
Restocking steers sold from 266c to 340c with one finished lot selling to the trade at 364c/kg. Yearling heifers to the trade made between 352c and 364c/kg. Grown steers and bullocks sold between 343c and 372c/kg. Heavy grown heifers made from 340c to 350c/kg.
A pen of Friesian manufacturing steers made 320c/kg. Most light and medium weight cows sold from 229c to 288c/kg. Heavy weight cows made mostly between 252c and 360c/kg. Heavy bulls sold between 318c and 350c/kg.
