Commentary
Similar numbers to last week as Scone agents hosted the only sale in the Hunter this week with 2393 cattle. Quality of the younger cattle improved somewhat and around 500 cows were penned. Added re-stocker interest from Central West and Far West of NSW along with Victorian border areas helped the market along in some grades.
Ultra Light steer calves under 200kg failed to gain any traction to be cheaper selling in a big range of 314c to 505c/kg, over 200kg saw them sell from firm to cheaper than last weeks rates making from 304c to 516c/kg. Light heifer calves cheaper by 10c/kg selling from 378c to 426c/kg and Euro heifer calves dearer by 11c/kg and they traded between 400c and 448c/kg. High yielding supplementary fed local butcher calves sold from 450c to 516c/kg.
Bigger lines and fashionably bred light weight yearling steers saw them spike by 49c/kg making from 438c to 478c/kg. Heavy yearling steers over 400kg to the lot feeders were back by 24c/kg selling between 424c and 480c/kg, averaging around 455c/kg. An outstanding offering of Euro yearling heifers over 350kg going to both re-stock and feed and sold from 400c to 450c/kg. B muscle steer and heifer yearlings to the trade sold from 460c to 516c/kg.
The few heavy grown steers and heifers with teeth to process sold from 356c to 410c/kg. Light 2 score cows followed suit with last weeks cheaper rates selling from 180c to 302c/kg, added processor demand saw the heavy prime cows with cover gain 3 to 9c/kg as the sale progressed making from 338 to 363c/kg.
