Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Cattle markets were generally firm to stronger, with strong restocker and feeder demand supporting lighter cattle in NSW and WA, while mixed quality caused selective results across other categories.

The trends appear to be:

  • Strong restocker and feeder demand lifted lightweight cattle in NSW and WA.
  • Mixed-quality yardings resulted in softer prices for some yearling and feeder cattle.
  • Heavy cows were mixed, strengthening in some markets but easing at Wagga.
  • Feeder demand continued to support trade and bullock markets in Victoria.

New South Wales

  • Forbes yarded 1,145 cattle, with yearling steers and heifers easing up to 5c/kg, while cows held firm and heavy bulls topped at 409c/kg.
  • Tamworth yarded 1,195 cattle, with light restocker steers dearer and heavy cows firmer to dearer, while feeder yearling steers eased 5c/kg.
  • Wagga yarded 4,360 cattle, with strong demand lifting lightweight and feeder cattle, while heavy cows eased.
  • Additional agency reports were available from Dubbo, Armidale, Wagga, and Tamworth.

Summary: NSW markets were mixed but generally well supported, with strong demand for lightweight and feeder cattle offsetting softer results for some yearlings and heavy cows.

Victoria

  • Mortlake yarded 1,082 cattle, with solid feeder demand keeping trade and bullock markets firm, while grown heifers, manufacturing cattle and heavy cows strengthened.
  • An additional agency report was available from Bairnsdale Store.

Summary: Victorian markets remained firm, supported by feeder demand and stronger prices for cows and grown heifers.

Western Australia

  • Muchea yarded 1,126 cattle, with strong restocker competition lifting most categories, particularly heavy cows and young bulls, while pastoral heifers eased on quality.

Summary: WA markets strengthened on strong restocker demand, with heavy cows and young bulls performing particularly well.

National Summary

Australian cattle markets remained generally firm, with strong restocker and feeder demand supporting lighter cattle and selected slaughter categories despite mixed quality and uneven price movements.
