Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Cattle markets trended softer across NSW, with larger yardings and reduced buyer demand ahead of the Anzac break driving widespread price declines—particularly for cows—while isolated centres showed more resilience. The trends appear to be:

  • Supply mixed, with increases in key NSW centres
  • Widespread price declines, especially in cows and grown cattle
  • Young cattle showing relatively better demand
  • Processor pressure and subdued restocker activity impacting prices
  • Market generally softer, with limited areas of stability

East Coast (QLD, NSW, VIC)

  • Softer market overall, with broad price declines across most categories

  • NSW results were weaker:

    • Forbes (2,801 head) saw a larger, mixed-quality yarding with most categories easing, particularly cows dropping up to 30c/kg
    • Tamworth (6,898 head) recorded widespread declines, with young cattle holding better demand while grown cattle and cows dropped significantly
    • Wagga (4,800 head) saw softer demand in a larger yarding, with cows falling sharply (35–60c/kg) amid processor pressure and weaker restocker activity
  • VIC (Mortlake) saw:
    • Firm trade and grown cattle prices
    • Cows and bulls eased slightly in a smaller, mixed-quality yarding
  • VIC:
    • Limited data available

Summary: Increased supply and weaker demand—particularly from processors and restockers—are driving softer market conditions, with cows and grown cattle under the most pressure while young cattle remain relatively resilient

Western Australia

  • Muchea (1,026 head) saw:
    • Strong buyer competition
    • Firm to higher prices for weaners and yearlings
    • Modest gains for limited grown cattle and cows

Summary: Firm to stronger market, supported by solid demand and limited supply in key categories
