Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Cattle markets were mixed across the reported centres, with rain and mixed-quality yardings influencing results. Restocker demand remained strong in some markets, while feeder cattle and cows generally eased.

The trends appear to be:

  • Rain reduced yardings in several centres
  • Mixed-quality offerings produced varied market results
  • Restocker demand remained solid for quality light cattle
  • Feeder cattle and cow prices generally eased
  • Additional agency reports provided further market coverage

New South Wales

  • Forbes (1,004 head) – Reduced numbers and improved quality cattle met a firm to easier market, with feeder steers easing, feeder heifers lifting slightly, and cows selling 12–18c/kg cheaper. An additional market report was available from AWN.
  • Tamworth (1,295 head) – Larger numbers met an easing feeder and restocker market, while limited prime cattle improved and heavy cows sold cheaper.
  • Wagga (3,205 head) – Rain reduced yardings and mixed-quality cattle met a mixed market, with strong restocker demand for light steers, steady trade cattle, softer feeder and export prices, and cows mostly unchanged. Additional market reports were available from Elders and AWN.

Summary: NSW cattle markets were mixed, with strong demand for quality restocker cattle offset by softer feeder and cow markets as rain and mixed-quality yardings influenced competition.

Victoria

  • Mortlake (1,950 head) – A larger mixed-quality yarding resulted in a softer market, with most categories easing, cows mostly firm to slightly cheaper, and heavy bulls improving.

Summary: Victoria’s market softened on a larger, mixed-quality yarding, although heavy bulls improved and cow prices were generally well maintained.

Western Australia

  • Muchea (990 head) – A smaller yarding and reduced buyer competition saw prices ease on lower-quality cattle, although heavy cows improved. An additional market report was available from AWN.

Summary: WA cattle prices eased on reduced buyer competition and lower-quality offerings, while heavy cows recorded improvements.

National Summary

Australian cattle markets were mixed, with rain, mixed-quality yardings and softer feeder demand weighing on several centres, while quality restocker cattle continued to attract solid buyer competition.
