Sheep Market Summary – 17 April 2026

by | Apr 20, 2026 | Feedlots, Processing, Sheep

Previous Close Sheep Markets Summary

Sheep and lamb markets showed slightly softer trends, with increased supply and improved quality unable to fully offset easing prices across trade lamb and mutton categories. The trends appear to be:

  • Supply increased across lamb and sheep categories
  • Trade lambs softened despite improved quality
  • Heavy and extra heavy lambs remained relatively solid
  • Mutton eased under softer demand conditions
  • Market generally softer, influenced by increased numbers

East Coast (NSW, VIC)

  • Softer market overall, with price pressure across most categories
  • NSW (Griffith) saw:
    • Lamb numbers lift to 11,300 head, with sheep rising to 3,600
    • Improved quality, particularly in heavy lambs
    • Prices eased slightly across most categories
    • Trade lambs and mutton softened, while heavy and extra heavy lambs held more solidly

Summary: Increased supply and improved quality were not enough to prevent softer pricing, particularly in trade lambs and mutton, while heavier lambs showed greater resilience

Western Australia

  • Limited data available, though market activity continues

Summary: Insufficient data for a clear trend
