Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Cattle markets continued to trend stronger, supported by widespread buyer competition, solid feedlot demand and improving seasonal conditions, with restocker and feeder cattle leading gains across most selling centres.

The trends appear to be:

  • Supply mixed, with larger store yardings in Victoria and steady numbers in NSW
  • Strong buyer competition across feeder, restocker and trade categories
  • Restocker and weaner cattle selling at higher rates in most centres
  • Feeder cattle attracting intense demand from feedlots and backgrounders
  • Cow markets generally firm to dearer on improved processor demand
  • Quality cattle continuing to command strong premiums

East Coast (NSW, VIC)

Overall firm to dearer market, driven by strong competition for feeder and restocker cattle.

NSW results were stronger:

  • Yass (1,165 head) recorded solid gains for feeder steers and restocker cattle, while heavy cattle held firm and cows were mixed
  • Dubbo (2,584 head) saw stronger demand lift weaners, feeders, grown cattle and cows across a mixed-quality yarding

VIC (Koonwarra store sale) stood out:

  • Large, high-quality yarding of 4,334 head
  • Intense feedlot and local buyer competition
  • Most categories lifted $50–$150/head
  • Strong demand for weaners and yearlings

Summary: Strong feedlot and restocker demand continues to underpin the market, with quality young cattle and store stock attracting significant competition and higher prices across key eastern selling centres
