Previous Close Sheep Markets Summary

Sheep markets were generally stronger despite sharply lower yardings, with active processor and buyer demand lifting trade and heavy lambs across several markets, while lighter lambs and some mutton lines remained mixed.

The trends appear to be:

  • Strong processor demand lifted trade and heavy lamb prices in several markets.
  • Reduced yardings supported prices, particularly for quality lambs.
  • Mutton markets were mixed but generally firmer for heavier and better-quality sheep.
  • Light and store lambs showed more variable results depending on quality and buyer demand.

Queensland

  • Warwick yarded 1,406 lambs and 603 sheep, with store and processor lambs gaining $28–$40/head, while hoggets and ewe mutton rose $17–$35/head.

Summary: Queensland sheep markets strengthened sharply, led by strong demand for lambs and improved mutton prices.

  • Cowra yarded 2,720 lambs and 370 sheep, with trade lambs firm, heavy lambs up to $9/head dearer and heavy mutton stronger.
  • Yass yarded 5,115 lambs and 1,500 sheep, with lamb prices surging $20–$25/head across most categories on active buying.

Summary: NSW sheep markets were generally stronger despite lower yardings, with particularly strong demand for trade and heavy lambs.
