Previous Close Sheep Markets Summary

Sheep markets showed firm to dearer trends nationally, with reduced yardings and strong processor competition driving gains across most lamb and mutton categories, particularly quality trade, export and heavy sheep lines.

The trends appear to be:

  • Supply significantly lower across major NSW and VIC centres
  • Strong processor competition supporting most lamb categories
  • Export and trade lambs recording solid price gains
  • Mutton markets stronger, especially quality heavy sheep
  • Quality stock attracting the strongest buyer support
  • Reduced yardings due to rain impacting supply levels

East Coast (NSW, VIC)

Firm to dearer market overall, with tighter supply and strong buyer demand lifting prices across most categories

NSW results were strongly positive:

  • Corowa (4,680 total) saw tight supply and strong processor demand lift most lamb and mutton categories, with export lambs surging up to $28/head
  • Tamworth (1,840 total) recorded firm to slightly dearer prices for quality stock, with extra heavy lambs reaching $383/head
  • Dubbo (23,275 total) saw strong competition push most categories $8–$20/head dearer, led by trade lambs and quality mutton despite rain-reduced numbers

VIC (Bendigo) saw:

  • Reduced lamb and sheep yardings
  • Limited detailed pricing information available from MLA report

Summary: Eastern states sheep markets were firm to dearer, with rain-affected lower supply and strong processor competition driving broad gains across trade lambs, export lambs and mutton categories
