Previous Close Sheep Markets Summary

Sheep and lamb markets remained mostly firm to dearer nationwide, with strong processor and feeder competition supporting trade lambs, heavy lambs and mutton despite mixed quality and fluctuating store demand.

The trends appear to be:

  • Strong buyer competition continued across most sheep and lamb markets
  • Trade and heavy lambs generally sold firm to dearer
  • Mutton markets remained well supported, particularly for quality heavy sheep
  • Feeder and restocker demand stayed active, especially in NSW
  • Mixed quality offerings led to variable results in lighter and store categories
  • Sheep numbers increased in several centres, while lamb supply was mixed nationally
  • Quality continued to underpin stronger price outcomes

East Coast (QLD, NSW, VIC)
Overall firm to dearer market, with strong competition from processors and feeders supporting most lamb and mutton categories.

QLD (Warwick) saw:

  • Slightly higher yardings overall
  • Lamb prices ease from previous highs but remain well supported
  • Strong competition keeping the overall market firm

NSW markets remained strong overall:

  • Carcoar saw higher lamb numbers and stronger competition lift trade lambs and mutton, while heavy lambs held firm
  • Cowra recorded reduced supply and stronger prices for trade and heavy lambs amid active buyer demand
  • Yass saw improved quality and steady to dearer trends, with heavy lambs and mutton lifting while feeder demand remained strong

VIC markets were generally dearer:

  • Horsham recorded strong buyer demand, lifting most lamb and mutton categories $10–$20/head higher
  • Hamilton saw reduced lamb numbers but increased sheep supply, with demand remaining solid across key categories

Western Australia

  • Katanning yardings increased significantly, with prime lambs and sheep generally dearer despite mixed quality and variable store demand

Summary: Sheep and lamb markets continue to be supported by strong processor and feeder demand, with quality trade and heavy stock attracting solid competition while lighter and store categories remain more variable depending on quality and buyer interest.
