Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Store cattle markets strengthened further across the eastern states, with rainfall-driven confidence and strong southern buyer competition lifting prices sharply for quality weaners, Angus yearlings and feeder cattle.

The trends appear to be:

  • Buyer confidence improving, supported by recent rainfall and stronger seasonal outlooks
  • Strong competition for quality Angus cattle, especially weaners and yearlings
  • Store cattle markets generally dearer, with standout gains in lighter calves and feeder lines
  • Southern and feedlot buyers highly active, particularly in NSW feature sales
  • Quality continuing to drive results, with well-bred cattle attracting significant premiums
  • Limited offerings in some regions due to smaller or mixed-quality yardings

East Coast (QLD, NSW, VIC)
Overall strong store cattle market, with renewed restocker and feeder confidence lifting prices across most categories

QLD (Emerald) saw:

  • Smaller mixed-quality yarding of 653 head
  • Stronger statewide demand across prime and feeder categories
  • Bullocks topping 420c/kg
  • Weaner steers reaching 496.2c/kg

NSW recorded standout feature sale results:

  • Tamworth store sale (3,344 head) delivered a much dearer market
  • Strong southern competition for Angus weaners and yearlings
  • Carcoar store sale (6,500 head) saw sharp price rises across all classes
  • Rainfall-driven confidence underpinned strong buyer demand

VIC (Bairnsdale store sale) saw:

  • Heavy yearling steers lift by around $50/head
  • Lighter calves improve by up to $150/head
  • Strong competition from local graziers and feedlots despite mixed quality

Summary: Store cattle demand remains very strong across the east coast, with rainfall confidence, active feeder support, and competition for quality Angus cattle driving significant price gains across most categories
