Previous Close Sheep Markets Summary

Sheep markets were mixed, with stronger demand lifting lambs at Dubbo while softer competition and heavier supplies pressured lamb and mutton prices elsewhere.

The trends appear to be:

  • Lamb markets were mixed, with stronger prices at Dubbo but softer results at Corowa and Bendigo.
  • Improved lamb quality and weight did not always translate into higher prices.
  • Mutton markets were generally softer, although scarce heavy sheep at Tamworth attracted strong prices.
  • Reduced sheep yardings were evident across NSW and Victoria.

New South Wales

  • Corowa yarded 4,775 lambs and 1,850 sheep, with improved lamb quality and weight but softer prices across heavy lambs and mutton.
  • Dubbo yarded 17,300 lambs and 3,845 sheep, with a stronger lamb market as trade lambs rose $12–$15 and heavy lambs gained $8, while mutton was mixed.
  • Tamworth yarded 2,560 lambs and 400 sheep, with strong top prices for limited heavy lambs and extra heavy crossbred sheep reaching $380/head.

Summary: NSW lamb markets were generally firm to stronger, led by Dubbo, while mutton remained softer amid reduced yardings.

Victoria

  • Bendigo yarded 4,990 lambs and 3,700 sheep, with a softer market as mixed quality, heavier weights and subdued buyer activity pressured prices.

Summary: Victorian sheep markets softened, with both lamb and mutton prices affected by selective buying.

National Summary

Australian sheep markets were mixed, with stronger lamb demand at Dubbo offsetting softer results at Corowa and Bendigo, while reduced mutton supplies generally met weaker prices.
