Previous Close Sheep Markets Summary

Sheep and lamb markets showed generally firm to stronger trends, with increased yardings met by solid demand, particularly from restockers, lifting lamb prices in key centres while mutton held firm. The trends appear to be:

  • Supply increased across lamb and sheep categories
  • Strong restocker demand supporting lighter lamb prices
  • Trade and heavy lambs mostly firm, with selective price gains
  • Mutton firm to slightly dearer on steady demand
  • Market conditions generally stable with quality influencing outcomes

East Coast (NSW, VIC)

  • Firm to slightly stronger market overall, with restocker demand a key driver
  • NSW results were mostly positive:
    • Dubbo (28,400 lambs / 11,300 sheep) saw strong restocker demand lift lamb prices $15–$20, with mutton firm to slightly dearer
    • Corowa (10,450 lambs / 4,050 sheep) recorded a steady market, with most lambs unchanged, extra heavy lambs slightly easier, and strong demand for lighter restocker lambs
    • Tamworth (4,700 lambs / 3,870 sheep) saw a fair-quality yarding with limited heavy lambs, as prices held mostly steady across all categories
  • VIC (Bendigo) saw:
    • Slight increase in lamb numbers with sheep numbers marginally lower
    • Overall market conditions steady, supported by consistent demand

Summary: Increased supply is being well absorbed by the market, with strong restocker demand underpinning lamb prices, while trade and heavy lambs remain mostly firm and mutton holds steady
