Previous Close Sheep Markets Summary

Sheep and lamb markets strengthened further across major eastern selling centres, with tighter supplies, improved quality, and strong processor demand pushing lamb and mutton prices to new highs.

The trends appear to be:

Supply lower overall, with significant reductions in both lamb and sheep yardings across NSW
Strong processor competition driving higher prices across most categories
Trade and heavy lambs sharply dearer, particularly quality lines
Mutton markets significantly stronger, with heavy sheep recording substantial gains
Improved quality supporting premium prices despite lower throughput
Market remains demand-driven, with buyers competing aggressively for finished stock

East Coast (NSW, VIC)

Overall firm to sharply dearer market, underpinned by reduced supply and strong processor demand.

NSW saw:

  • Corowa record new market highs, with trade lambs lifting $5–$15/head and heavy sheep gaining up to $30/head
  • Tamworth post stronger results, with trade and heavy lambs rising $8–$15/head while sheep prices remained firm
  • Dubbo deliver some of the strongest gains, with lambs improving $11–$20/head and heavy sheep lifting up to $40/head amid strong processor competition

VIC (Bendigo) Saw:

  • Slightly larger sheep numbers and steady lamb supply
  • Continued solid demand across lamb and sheep categories
  • Firm market conditions supported by broader national strength

Summary: Reduced yardings, improved quality, and aggressive processor competition continue to drive sheep and lamb markets higher, with trade lambs, heavy lambs, and mutton reaching new price levels across major eastern selling centres.
