Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Cattle markets were mostly dearer across the eastern states, with widespread rain reducing yardings but boosting buyer confidence and competition, particularly for feeder cattle, restockers and cows.

The trends appear to be:

  • Supply lower overall, with rain sharply reducing numbers across many NSW centres
  • Stronger buyer competition, particularly from feeders, restockers and processors
  • Feeder and restocker cattle generally dearer, supported by improved seasonal confidence
  • Cow markets significantly stronger in many centres
  • Quality cattle attracting strong premiums, while mixed-quality lines showed more variable trends
  • Rainfall underpinning sentiment and lifting demand across most selling centres

East Coast (QLD, NSW, VIC)
Overall dearer market, with rain-reduced yardings and stronger competition driving widespread price improvements

QLD results were firm to dearer:

  • Roma store sale (6,500 head) saw stronger competition across most categories, especially restocker yearling steers
  • Warwick recorded improved prices across young cattle, feeders and cows despite steady numbers
  • Moreton also reported a dearer market, particularly for heavy heifers, cows and weaner cattle

NSW markets strengthened significantly:

  • Inverell saw strong gains in feeder steers, cows and heavy bulls
  • Gunnedah recorded a much dearer market across young cattle, feeders, restockers and cows despite lower supply
  • Scone experienced sharp price rises across calves, feeder cattle and cows as rain reduced yardings and intensified buyer competition
  • Carcoar reported stronger prices for most categories, with notable gains in yearlings, feeders and cows

VIC markets were mostly dearer:

  • Wodonga saw firm heavy cow prices and mixed trade and feeder trends
  • Shepparton recorded strong gains for dairy and beef cows in a cow-heavy yarding
  • Koonwarra reported dearer trends across most categories due to strong feedlot and processor demand

South Australia and Tasmania:

  • Naracoorte saw improved young cattle and steer prices, with heavy cows steady
  • Powranna recorded strong store competition for cows alongside solid demand for grown steers and bullocks

Summary: Rainfall-driven confidence and reduced supply supported a broadly dearer cattle market, with feeders, restockers and cows leading gains across most eastern states.

Western Australia
Limited reported activity, with agent-only reports from Muchea and Boyanup.

Summary: Insufficient MLA market data for a clear statewide trend, though eastern states showed strong rain-supported buying sentiment overall.
