Previous Close Sheep Markets Summary

Sheep markets showed mixed to firm trends nationally, with reduced supply in several regions supporting trade and heavy lamb prices, while store lambs and some mutton categories remained under pressure amid selective demand.

The trends appear to be:

  • Supply generally lower across most states, particularly in VIC and WA
  • Trade and heavy lambs supported by solid processor demand
  • Restocker and feeder demand active in some centres
  • Store lambs and plainer types under pressure
  • Mutton mixed, with steady results in some areas but weaker trends in others
  • Market remains quality-driven, with better-finished lambs attracting stronger competition

East Coast (NSW, VIC)

  • Mixed to firm market overall, with stronger demand for trade and heavy lambs, while store and secondary lines remain softer
  • NSW (Forbes) saw:
    • Slightly smaller yarding (40,400 total; 28,450 lambs, 11,950 sheep)
    • Mixed lamb quality with steady competition
    • Trade lambs slightly dearer
    • Strong restocker demand supporting the market
    • Mutton generally steady
  • VIC results were mixed to firm:
    • Ballarat (15,859 lambs, 3,086 sheep) saw strong demand lift trade and heavy lamb prices
    • Store lambs and mutton eased due to fewer buyers

Summary: Eastern states markets remain mixed to firm, with reduced supply supporting trade and heavy lambs, while store and secondary categories face softer demand
