Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary
 Cattle markets strengthened sharply across most states, with strong feeder, restocker, and processor demand driving widespread gains despite mixed quality and weather-affected supply in some regions.
The trends appear to be:
- Buyer competition very strong across feeder, restocker, and export categories
- Feeder cattle and backgrounding steers in high demand, particularly in QLD and NSW
- Cow markets significantly dearer, with heavy cows posting strong gains in many centres
- Rainfall and seasonal confidence continuing to support restocker activity
- Supply mixed, with larger yardings in several key centres but weather still limiting numbers elsewhere
- Quality cattle attracting aggressive bidding, especially well-bred weaners and feeder lines
East Coast (QLD, NSW, VIC)
Overall very strong market, with broad-based price gains across young cattle, feeders, trade stock, and cows
QLD results were particularly strong:
- Roma’s 8,276-head interim sale recorded considerably stronger trends, driven by intense demand for quality backgrounding steers and feeder cattle
- Warwick saw firmer to dearer prices across most categories, including feeder cattle, cows, bulls, and bullocks
- Mareeba reported improving demand across all categories
- Moreton recorded much higher prices in a weather-affected sale, with standout cow and bullock results
NSW markets also strengthened:
- Inverell saw weaners and cows significantly dearer, with most feeder and processor categories improving
- Gunnedah recorded strong gains for trade cattle, restocker lines, and cows despite softer southern competition
- Scone delivered significant rises across weaners, yearlings, and cows under strong restocker and feeder demand
- Carcoar saw most categories lift 15–20c/kg, with heavy cows and feeders leading gains in a larger cow-driven yarding
VIC continued the stronger trend:
- Shepparton recorded improved demand for well-finished young cattle, bullocks, and heavy beef cow
- Koonwarra posted dearer trends across trade cattle, feeders, and heavy cows
- Wodonga saw export cattle and cows rise 30–60c/kg amid solid processor competition
South Australia and Tasmania
- Naracoorte recorded stronger prices across young cattle, feeders, and cows in a rain-affected yarding
- Powranna maintained a firm market, with heavy cows lifting despite mixed quality
