Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Cattle markets remained strongly positive across most regions, with widespread rainfall, reduced yardings and aggressive buyer competition driving significant gains in feeder, restocker and cow categories.

The trends appear to be:

  • Strong buyer confidence continued to support dearer cattle markets nationwide
  • Rainfall reduced yardings in many eastern centres, tightening supply
  • Feeder, restocker and cow categories recorded widespread price gains
  • Quality cattle attracted particularly strong competition
  • Processor demand remained active, especially for cows and heavy cattle
  • Store cattle markets stayed firm to dearer, supported by renewed seasonal confidence
  • Better-quality young cattle and heifers continued to outperform

East Coast (QLD, NSW, VIC)
Overall market significantly dearer, with strong competition from feeders, processors and restockers underpinning most categories.

QLD markets strengthened sharply:

  • Charters Towers (4,397 head) saw broad price rises, with bullocks lifting 40–60c/kg and cows gaining 40–55c/kg on strong supply and demand
  • Blackall (4,000 head) recorded significant gains across steers, heifers, feeder cattle and cows as quality lines attracted strong competition despite rain impacts

NSW markets were also very strong:

  • Armidale saw a plain-quality, female-heavy yarding sell to a significantly dearer market, particularly for cows and restocker cattle
  • Dubbo recorded stronger competition across heifers, young cattle and cows despite reduced rain-affected supply
  • Yass saw improved quality and strong demand push feeder cattle, young cattle and cows sharply higher

VIC store markets remained firm to dearer:

  • Koonwarra (3,148 head) attracted a strong buyer turnout, with heavy steers improving, heifers gaining strongly and most categories holding firm to dearer trends despite softer light steer calves

Western Australia

  • Mount Barker saw reduced numbers but improved quality, with stronger prices for weaners, trade cattle and cows while heavy bulls eased slightly

Summary: Rain-driven confidence and tight supply continue to fuel strong cattle markets, with widespread gains across feeder, restocker and cow categories as buyers compete aggressively for quality stock nationwide.
