Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Cattle markets were generally well supported across the country, with strong restocker and feeder demand driving dearer prices in many centres, while mixed-quality offerings produced varied results in export categories.

The trends appear to be:

  • Strong restocker and feeder demand underpinned the market
  • Quality young cattle continued to attract premium prices
  • Mixed-quality yardings produced variable export and cow results
  • Agency reports provided additional market coverage across key selling centres

Queensland

  • Roma Store (9,715 head) – A quality yarding sold to a slightly dearer market, with strong restocker, feeder and southern buyer demand supporting weaners and feeders. An additional market report was available from GDL.
  • Warwick (1,199 head) – Increased numbers met strong competition for quality yearlings, with solid demand for well-finished bullocks and cows.
  • Mareeba (563 head) – Strong competition lifted steer prices, cows were mostly steady, while heavy bulls eased.
  • Moreton (691 head) – Firm export cows, dearer secondary and store cows, strong feeder demand, and fierce competition lifted vealer and yearling prices.

Summary: Queensland cattle markets remained strong, with widespread buyer competition supporting quality young cattle, feeders and cows across most centres.

New South Wales

  • Gunnedah (1,640 head) – A larger, better-quality yarding produced mostly dearer prices, led by stronger demand for feeder yearlings, restockers and heavy cows.
  • Scone (523 head) – Increased numbers and stronger buyer competition lifted prices across weaners, feeder cattle and cows. An additional market report was available from SAA.
  • Inverell (1,184 head) – Mixed-quality cattle sold to a solid market, highlighted by much dearer weaners and stronger feeder and processor demand. An additional market report was available from RLX.
  • Carcoar (2,252 head) – Reduced numbers and plainer quality softened young cattle prices, while heavy prime steers, heifers and the best heavy cows remained firm to slightly dearer.
  • Tamworth – Additional market reports were available from DC and RLX.
  • Wagga – An additional market report was available from RLA.

Summary: NSW markets were mostly stronger, driven by solid restocker and feeder demand, although plainer-quality young cattle softened in some centres.

Victoria

  • Wodonga (950 head) – Slightly lower numbers saw mixed trends, with trade and feeder cattle easing while heavy cows edged higher.
  • Shepparton (1,200 head) – Tight supplies and mixed quality saw strong restocker and feedlot demand support young cattle, while export and cow prices were mixed. An additional market report was available from Elders.
  • Koonwarra (2,212 head) – Larger numbers lifted trade cattle and grown steers, while cows and heavy bulls eased in a mixed-quality market. An additional store cattle report was available from RLX.
  • Mortlake – RLX released its latest cattle market report.
  • Wangaratta – WLE released its latest cattle market report.

Summary: Victorian cattle markets remained mixed, with strong demand for younger cattle offset by softer trends in cows and export lines.

South Australia

  • Naracoorte (626 head) – Higher numbers and mixed-quality cattle sold to softer rates across most categories, although feeder demand remained strong and bulls held firm. An additional market report was available from Elders.
  • Dublin – Elders released its latest cattle market report.

Summary: South Australian markets softened overall, with feeder demand providing support despite easier prices across most categories.

Tasmania

  • Powranna (72 head) – A small yarding met firm demand, with strong trade cattle prices and cows improving 5–10c/kg. An additional market report was available from Nutrien.

Summary: Tasmania’s small offering sold to firm demand, with stronger trade cattle and improved cow prices.

Western Australia

  • Muchea – Nutrien released its latest cattle market report.
