Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Cattle markets were generally firm across Australia, with strong restocker and feeder demand supporting young cattle, while cow and processor markets produced mixed results depending on quality and buyer competition.

The trends appear to be:

  • Restocker and feeder demand remained the major driver of the market
  • Young cattle and quality yearlings generally sold dearer
  • Prime cattle remained firm across most centres
  • Cow markets were mixed, with firm trends in some regions and softer processor competition in others
  • Buyer demand continued to favour better-finished and well-bred cattle

Queensland

  • Roma (8,471 head) – A quality yarding met a very solid market, with strong restocker demand lifting yearling steer prices. Additional market reports were available from TopX and GDL.
  • Warwick (738 head) – Mixed-quality cattle sold to strong competition for better lines, with restockers driving young cattle prices while lesser-quality stock attracted limited interest.
  • Clermont (620 head) – Strong processor demand supported solid prices for prime cattle despite mixed quality and limited store numbers.
  • Mareeba (520 head) – Strong local and southern processor competition maintained firm demand across prime cattle categories.
  • Moreton (757 head) – Firm demand supported cows, feeder steers, restocker steers and heavy ox, while vealer and yearling heifers eased slightly but remained well above year-ago levels.

Summary: Queensland recorded another strong market, led by solid restocker and processor demand. Quality young cattle remained well supported, while better-finished prime cattle continued to attract strong competition.

New South Wales

  • Gunnedah (950 head) – Good-quality yearlings and weaners attracted stronger restocker competition, while cow prices remained firm. An additional market report was available from DC.
  • Scone (238 head) – Small yarding sold to solid restocker demand, with strong competition for young cattle and firm heavy cow prices. An additional market report was available from SAA.
  • Inverell (962 head) – Better-finished cattle sold dearer and stronger cow prices offset softer trends for many feeder steers. An additional market report was available from RLX.
  • Carcoar (2,633 head) – Mixed-quality offering saw feeder steers strengthen, prime grown cattle remain firm and heavy cows ease slightly. An additional market report was available from RLX.
  • Tamworth – DC market report was available.
  • Forbes – AWN market report was available.

Summary: NSW markets remained generally firm, with feeder and restocker demand underpinning prices. Better-finished cattle continued to perform well, although heavy cows and some feeder categories produced mixed results.

Victoria

  • Wodonga (1,025 head) – Strong demand lifted trade cattle prices, while heavy cows eased under softer processor competition.
  • Shepparton (1,100 head) – Stronger demand lifted grown heifers and heavy steers, while most cow prices eased slightly. An additional market report was available from Elders.
  • Koonwarra (1,920 head) – A generally firm market, with stronger trade cattle offsetting softer grown cattle while heavy cows remained firm.
  • Mortlake – RLX market report was available.
  • Wangaratta – WLE market report was available.

Summary: Victoria produced a mostly firm market, with trade cattle well supported despite softer cow prices in some centres as processor competition eased.

South Australia

  • Naracoorte (478 head) – Smaller mixed-quality yarding sold to firm demand, with feeder competition supporting young cattle while heavy beef cows held firm. An additional market report was available from Elders.

Summary: South Australia’s market remained steady to firm, with feeder demand continuing to support quality young cattle.

Tasmania

Summary: Tasmania recorded another strong market, with active restocker demand supporting most categories despite the small yarding.

National Summary
