Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Cattle markets were mixed, with Queensland and NSW generally well supported by strong buyer competition, while Victoria and South Australia produced mixed results across categories.

The trends appear to be:

  • Strong demand supported quality cattle, restockers and yearlings across Queensland and NSW.
  • Queensland cows were mixed, with Charters Towers strengthening while Dalby eased under reduced export competition.
  • NSW markets remained firm to stronger, particularly for restockers, weaners and yearlings following rain.

Queensland

New South Wales

  • Silverdale remained firm to dearer, supported by strong restocker, yearling and weaner demand following local rain.

Victoria

  • Bairnsdale saw light and medium cows hold firm, while heavy beef cows eased and heavy bulls remained firm.
  • Echuca produced an erratic market, with quality calves and grain-fed yearlings firm to dearer while plainer cattle and dairy cows eased.
  • Additional Koonwarra and Echuca reports provided no current market trend.

Summary: Victorian markets were mixed, with quality cattle better supported while heavy and plainer cattle faced weaker demand.

South Australia

  • Mount Compass produced mixed results, with yearlings and heavy cows easing while well-presented grown cattle strengthened.
  • Mount Gambier saw strong demand for vealers and cows, while grown steers and bullocks eased and bulls strengthened.

Summary: South Australian markets were mixed, with strong demand for vealers, cows and quality grown cattle offset by softer results for some heavier categories.

National Summary
