Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

  • Recent rain strengthened demand for quality feeder, restocker and grown cattle in NSW.
  • Queensland markets were generally softer, particularly for prime cattle, while quality feeder steers remained supported.
  • Victorian store cattle remained firm despite sharply reduced and winter-affected yardings.

Queensland

  • Blackall yarded 2,150 cattle, with prime cattle easing 5–10c/kg, while heavy feeder steers remained well supported and cows were mostly firm to slightly cheaper.
  • Charters Towers yarded 3,396 cattle, with prime bullocks and cows easing while heifers improved and stronger-quality store cattle were offered.
  • Moreton yarded 921 cattle, with additional reports available from Dalby. 

Summary: Queensland markets were generally softer, although heavy feeder steers and better-quality store cattle continued to attract support.

New South Wales

  • Armidale yarded 561 cattle, with yearling heifers and restocker steers easing while cows and bulls remained relatively firm.
  • Yass yarded 452 cattle, with weaner steers, heifers and feeder cattle strengthening in a smaller, fair-to-good quality yarding.
  • Dubbo yarded 3,300 cattle, with recent rain supporting a strong market across feeders, restockers, grown cattle and cows.
  • Additional agency reports were available from Armidale and Singleton.

 Summary: NSW was the strongest state, with recent rain driving improved demand for quality young, feeder and grown cattle.

Victoria

  • Koonwarra Store yarded 1,423 cattle, with a sharply reduced yarding of mostly secondary, winter-affected cattle meeting surprisingly solid demand and generally firm prices.
  • Additional agency reports were available from Echuca, Koonwarra, Wodonga, and Colac.

Summary: Victorian store markets remained firm despite very small yardings and generally secondary winter quality.

Tasmania

  • Powranna Store yarded 1,217 cattle, with strong demand for well-bred weaners and solid prices across yearling cattle.

Summary: Tasmanian store cattle remained steady, supported by demand for quality weaners and yearlings.

Western Australia

  • Mount Barker yarded 498 cattle, with selective buying and softer processor demand pushing most categories 10–20c/kg lower.

Summary: WA markets weakened as buyer competition and processor demand eased.

National Summary

Australian cattle markets remained mixed, with rain-driven buying strengthening NSW markets and supporting quality cattle, while selective demand and winter-affected quality continued to pressure prices elsewhere.
